Tesla Collision Repair in Los Angeles
On an insurance claim you pick the shop, not your insurer. See how a claim runs here.
- Limited lifetime warranty on paint and bodywork
What a Tesla
repair involves
The estimate tells you which of these your car needs.
Panels and structure
- Model S and Model X bodies are aluminum-intensive; Model 3 and Model Y mix aluminum panels with a steel structure
- Cybertruck panels are stainless steel and leave the factory unpainted
- On the Model Y the rear underbody is one large casting instead of a welded assembly of many parts, so where the damage lands on it decides whether the section is repaired or replaced
- Aluminum work-hardens, so some dents that would be pulled on a steel panel call for a replacement instead
- Damage behind the panel is documented before the repair plan is set
We do aluminum body work. Which panels are repaired and which are replaced is a call we make after seeing the car, not before.
Cameras, sensors and glass
- Tesla driver assistance reads the road through cameras, and they sit behind the windshield, in the B-pillars, in the front fenders and at the rear
- That spread means a door, fender or bumper repair commonly disturbs one of them
- Manufacturer repair procedures call for recalibration once those parts are replaced or moved
We recalibrate the cameras and driver-assist sensors after the body and paint work is finished.
Paint and finish
- On a painted Tesla the finish is matched from the paint code, then checked against the panels next to the repair
- A repair disappears at the door gap when the paint is blended into the panel beside it
- Cybertruck panels are not painted at all, so a damaged one is a different conversation and the estimate is where it starts
The finish is checked against the surrounding panels before the car is handed back.
Parts
- Genuine parts can be ordered for the repair
- On a claim, your policy sets what is covered, and you can ask for genuine parts
Parts availability affects how long a repair takes, so we talk about it at the estimate rather than after.
From the first look to the handover
Nothing is ordered and nothing comes apart until you have said yes.
-
Photos, a walk-in, or a tow
Send photos with the form below, or drive in. If the car is not drivable, call (310) 880-7575 and we can help arrange professional towing. Either way the first look costs nothing.
-
Written estimate
An itemized estimate we read through with you, including which parts we would order and why.
-
Your approval
You approve the repair plan first. On a claim, the documentation goes to your adjuster before anything is ordered.
-
Body, paint and parts
Panel and structural work, then paint. If teardown shows more than the estimate could see, we document it and file a supplement.
-
Recalibration and pickup
Cameras and sensors recalibrated, panel gaps and paint checked, then the car goes back to you with our limited lifetime warranty on paint and bodywork.
Genuine parts,
and what a claim covers
Two different questions. Here is where the line sits.
What we can order
Genuine Tesla parts, ordered for your repair. The same goes for any other make that comes through the shop.
What each panel needs is written into the estimate, so you can see the parts list before you agree to anything.
What the claim decides
Your policy governs what the insurer covers. You can request genuine parts, and we go through the choices with you at the estimate rather than after the fact.
AZ Auto Collision Center is an independent Los Angeles body shop. We are not affiliated with Tesla.
What Tesla owners ask us
Can you use genuine Tesla parts on an insurance claim?
Yes, we can order genuine Tesla parts. On an insurance claim your policy governs what is covered, you can ask for genuine parts, and we go through the options with you at the estimate before anything is ordered.
Do the cameras and sensors need attention after bumper or glass damage?
Often yes, and not only where the impact landed. A camera that was unbolted and put back can end up slightly off its original aim, so recalibration happens after the panels are aligned and the paint is done rather than before. If a fender or a door was part of the repair, that is a camera location too.
Are aluminum Tesla panels repaired the same way as steel ones?
No. Aluminum moves and work-hardens differently from steel, so a dent that would be pulled and finished on a steel panel can call for a different repair, or for the panel to be replaced. How much aluminum is in front of us depends on the model. Model S and Model X are aluminum-intensive, Model 3 and Model Y mix aluminum panels with a steel structure, and Cybertruck panels are stainless steel. We do aluminum body work, and the inspection tells us which way each panel goes.
Do I have to use a shop my Tesla insurance sends me to?
No. In California the repair shop is your choice, whoever the policy is with. A recommendation is a suggestion you can decline, and your coverage and deductible come from the policy rather than from the shop you pick. Tell your insurer the car is coming here and we take the documentation from there. See how the claim process works.
The Tesla is not drivable. How does it get to you?
Call us at (310) 880-7575 and leave the car where it is. We can help arrange professional towing to the shop. Anything dragging, leaking, or sitting at an angle it did not sit at before is a reason not to drive it. Whether the tow itself is covered comes from your policy, so it is worth asking your insurer.
Is a small scrape on a Tesla worth an estimate?
Yes, and the written estimate is free. Small damage often reaches further than it looks: a scraped bumper cover can also mean a cracked mount, a sensor knocked out of position, or paint that has to be blended into the next panel. The estimate tells you what is actually involved before you decide whether to open a claim.
Do you stand behind the paint and bodywork?
Yes. The repair is backed by a limited lifetime warranty on paint and bodywork: workmanship on the bodywork, and paint against peeling, bubbling, and cracking, for as long as you own the vehicle. The warranty is non-transferable. It does not cover parts under a manufacturer's warranty, rust from unrepaired damage, damage from later accidents, or normal wear.
